Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) gave a reality check to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 10th match of IPL 2023. LSG chased down the target of 122 in 16 overs with 5 wickets in hand. Krunal Pandya‘s all-around heroics proved to be the difference in the end. Krunal Pandya took 3 wickets & later scored 34 runs in 23 balls on a sluggish track.
LSG would be over the moon, with this win they have topped the points table with 4 points and an NRR (net run rate) of +1.36. KL Rahul’s decision to play with 3 spinners did wonders. Amit Mishra had a pretty good debut for LSG as he took 2 wickets in his 4 overs & gave away 23 runs in his 4-over spell
Aiden Markram’s decision to bat first on an uneven track back-fired. It didn’t look like that Aiden Markram & Harry Brook were dominating the World Cricket over the last 6 months. SRH need to quickly regroup, a couple of more defeats won’t keep them in good stead in IPL 2023.
SRH perhaps should open the batting with Abhishek Sharma (*not selected against LSG) & Rahul Tripathi who can lay a solid foundation for the middle-order batters. SRH’s next match is against Punjab Kings (PBKS) who are on a roll after winning two matches on the trot & it won’t be easy for SRH to outplay them.
IPL 2023 | India National Cricket Team | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Delhi Capitals (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)
LSG on the other hand are looking like a threatening unit. Cricket experts thought that leaving out both Avesh Khan & Mark Wood from the playing 11 could cost LSG the match but it proved to be a brilliant decision. Skipper KL Rahul too rediscovered his mojo as he scored 35 runs in 31 balls & struck 4 fours.
Very good day at the office- Krunal Pandya
During the post-match presentation, Krunal Pandya was asked about his performance. Krunal Pandya was quite happy after contributing to all the 3 facets of the game. Krunal Pandya pointed out that he wanted to work on his bowling for this season. Krunal Pandya stated that the wicket of Aiden Markram was pretty special.
“Very good day at the office I can say. Both (what he enjoyed more?). Runs, wickets – everything is hard-earned. Everything is special. More right-handers in their lineup – knew I would be bowling four overs. This year I’m in a good headspace. Once you have clarity up there, things fall in places. I’m very process-driven, don’t think about results,” said Krunal Pandya.
“I took a break from cricket for a few months because I was just playing the white-ball formats, so wanted some time off to work on my bowling. What happened last two-three years was I kept getting wider and wider. Whatever I did in the last 3-4 months – getting taller and getting the ball to turn away, it is all coming out really well. People say I don’t turn the ball, so that answers it I guess (Markram wicket),” he stated.
“I’m trying to recollect how I played in the first 4-5 years in IPL where I was batting at four for MI. Trying to find that rhythm and consistency. Having the clarity helps. I’m okay with any track. Don’t mind if I get a MoM. Want to dedicate this to my wife. She has been a constant support, she is who brings out the best version of myself,” he added.
