The five-time champions scored 183 with the bat and bowled out LSG for just 101 to win the match by 81 runs. MI’s win was one of the biggest in terms of runs in IPL playoffs. Akash Madhval picked 5/5 in the ga,e after Nehal Wadhera’s 12-ball 23-run cameo took them to that score. Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Verma also played their part in the win.

The Titans meanwhile lost for the first time against CSK in the IPL. MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings skipper optimized his resources and used them accordingly at the Chepauk. With the pitch turning, DFhoni made the play after The Super Kings managed to score 173 with the bat. The Titans were bowled out for 157 as CSK made it to their 10th IPL final.

Talking about MI and GT, both teams have had a campaign to remember. The defending champions played like champions and were the first team to qualify for the playoffs. MI started with back-to-back losses and then built on the momentum. The side chased better this year, successfully chasing down six times.

The two teams have played thrice in the IPL with MI winning two matches and GT one. Both teams won one match each at their home venue. This match will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Thus GT is slightly ahead in the game. The overall conditions are very similar to that of Wankhede. The Ahmedabad track is expected to be a batting-friendly wicket. MI having played more knockout games knows exactly how to play in big games.

Mumbai Indians

MI have made the play in the second half of the season winning tough games to make it to the playoffs. Their approach to the games have been decided by the conditions. All the top batters except Rohit Sharma have scored runs consistently. SKY and Camron Green have hit centuries this season and are the two best batters on the team so far. The likes of Nehal Wadhera and Tilak Vara playing their part keeps the team in good stead. The only concern has been Rohit Sharma’s form. He scored over 300 runs this season but has never looked in form.

Bowling wise they have been in good shape as well. Piyush Chawla has taken wickets in almost every game. Akash Madhval’s rise in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer has been the story of the season for MI. He is fresh off a five-wicket haul in the Eliminator. Chris Jordan bowled well at the death in the last match as did Jason Behrendorff at the top. The bowling too looks in good form and should be able to replicate their Eliminator performance.

Gujarat Titans

The Titans failed to track down 173 against CSK in Qualifier 1. This was just their fourth loss while chasing in 18 matches. The Titans have been the most consistent side this IPL season winning 10 matches and losing just four. The team is not made of superstars as such but all the players understand their roles. This is the specialty of the side. There is transparency and understanding between the management and the players which makes this team a strong force.

Hardik spoke about conceding 15-20 extra runs with the ball in the post-match presentation after the game against CSK. He also admitted that the team made some basic errors which they need to correct in Qualifier 2. The captain spoke about doing the basic things right and sticking to the process.

GT’s batting line-up has been heavily dependent on Shubman Gill. The youngster has already scored 722 runs for the season and has a chance to end up with the Orange Cap. The rest of the batters including skipper Hardik Pandya need to take responsibility with the bat.

Their bowlers have stood up almost all the time. Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami have shared 51 wickets between themselves and Mohit Sharma has taken 19. They played Darshan Nalkande in Qualifier 1 a move that did not work out. Josh Little is back from Ireland and is available for selection for Qualifier 2.
