Former Punjab Kings (PBKS) head coach Anil Kumble has picked Chris Gayle as the Greatest of all time (G.O.A.T) IPL player.
Kumble, who was replaced by Trevor Bayliss as PBKS head coach this year, coached Gayle in the latter four years with the team. The pairing did not click, as while Chris played a few good knocks for the side, he was never a regular part of the playing XI. The team also did not make it to playoffs in any of the seasons the two were with the team.

Chris Gayle left the team in 2021 due to bio-bubble fatigue and did not make another IPL appearance. Despite any friction that might have caused, Kumble still opines that Chris Gayle is the greatest IPL player of all time.
There are plenty of them; it’s difficult to pick just one. I can certainly look back and say probably a Chris Gayle, someone who is larger than life. The way he came across as a player! What he brought to RCB and the way he sorts of changed the whole powerplay and the power he brought to batting,” he said in an interview with JioCinema.

Chris Gayle is in contention to be the best batsman in league history, not counting his unparalleled explosiveness. He and AB de Villiers are the only 2 foreign players in the top 10 most runs scored in IPL with 4965, but he has played the least innings out of all in the top 10.
He has also scored the highest individual score in a match in IPL, scoring 175-off-66 against Pune Warriors India in 2013.
Chris Gayle was recently inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame
Chris Gayle, along with fellow IPL great AB de Villiers, was recently included in the newly minted Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Hall of Fame.
On March 25, the team held an event in Chinnaswamy Stadium called ‘RCB Unbox’. Where, among other things, the two greats were inducted.
Gayle played his first IPL in 2009 as he represented Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for two years. His most significant time in the league started in 2011 when he was bought by RCB. The following 7 years were utter domination by the Jamaicans. Despite the team didn’t pick the trophy, Chris Gayle did win the Orange Cap twice, broke many records, and became a league legend.
Despite leaving RCB for PBKS in 2018, the 43-year-old is still synonymous with the Bengaluru-based franchise.
