Punjab Kings (PBKS) have named a new skipper in the form of Shikhar Dhawan & head coach Trevor Bayliss. Trevor Baylis has led KKR to the IPL title in the 2012 & 2014 editions. PBKS have been dealt with a huge blow as Bairstow is unavailable where he is yet to recover from injury

All eyes would be on the dashing all-rounder Sam Curran to provide key breakthroughs & make handy contributions at the back end of the innings. Sam Curran could be the ‘X’ factor for PBKS where he could be used as the floater as he has got a wide range of shots & foxy variations to deceive the batters.

Taking wickets in the middle overs is very important – Trevor Bayliss

Trevor Bayliss was having an interaction with PTI & spoke about the key to success in IPL. Trevor Bayliss pointed out that the players need to love the game & not think too far ahead in the tournament.

“I want them to play the game for the reasons they started playing the game at the first place which is the love for the game. I don’t know what was like it in the past but I will run this time like I have always done. It does not guarantee success but we will enjoy ourselves but play with a smile on our face but when we need to we will do the hard yards in the practice field. I am not exactly sure if I can pinpoint one thing (about the success in T20 cricket),” said Trevor Bayliss.

“From bowling point of view, if you are taking the wickets through the middle overs then you are very tough to beat. Taking wickets in the middle overs is very important. In this day & age, teams bat deep across the board. What you need is your main players scoring runs & taking wickets. How do you achieve that? To be in a good frame of mind, playing under less pressure and not be under pressure to perform. From my point of view, it is about creating an environment that takes the pressure off all the players,” he added.

Steep Road Ahead for PBKS

PBKS doesn’t have a quality Indian batter after skipper Shikhar Dhawan which is a concern for the team. Liam Livingstone can be used at the top of the order where he has had pretty good success. Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer will have to lead the bowling lineup as now there would be huge expectations from him.

PBKS management would be hoping that Sikandar Raza continues his good run in the IPL 2023 which would be his maiden stint. Raza can be seen playing in franchise leagues around the globe where his 4 overs could be decisive in the match. PBKS fans would be hoping that the team wins the crunch moments of the match.
