The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Chandrakant Pandit, who has enjoyed successful stints in domestic cricket with Mumbai, Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh, has said that although the Impact Player rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is challenging they are well prepared to tackle it.

The Impact Player rule will make its debut in the IPL in the upcoming season. The Impact Player rule allows teams to bring in a substitute player in place of any member of the starting XI.

Teams taking part in a match will be required to submit the names of four substitutes at the time of toss and they can only make a change in their playing XI by bringing in a substitute from the list of four players. However, the player coming in as a substitute can only be an Indian unless the team had only three overseas players in their first-choice playing XI.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Chandrakant Pandit said that they have identified the players who will be coming into the playing XI as substitutes during the matches.

“We have been working on it, obviously (identified impact player?). It’s a challenging rule. It’s very interesting. Basically, for the coaches and captains, it’s going be interesting. We have been thinking about that, discussing with our support staff about the various options. When it comes to the field, we have to take a decision. But yes, we are prepared for it,” Chandrakant Pandit said while speaking in a press conference.

“We are looking at it from every possible way. That particular day will decide and the opposition will decide our impact player,” Chandrakant Pandit said.

We Are Very Confident In His Abilities – Chandrakant Pandit On Nitish Rana

Nitish Rana has been named interim captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the IPL 2023 as regular skipper Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss at least the first half of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Chandrakant Pandit has said that Nitish Rana was handed the leadership responsibility because he ticks all the boxes and is very capable.

“More than selecting the captain, it is about giving responsibility and we thought that he was very capable to that. He has been at KKR for many years and he had all the boxes ticked. We are very confident in his abilities,” Chandrakant Pandit explained.

“Everyone at the international level is special in their own way and it was a collective decision of the coach and support staff to hand Nitish Rana the captaincy. And everyone has received that very well,” the coach added.

The Nitish Rana-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be up against Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their first match on April 1 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh.
