MS Dhoni scored an unbeaten 32 off 17 balls but CSK ended up losing the game against Rajasthan Royals by a narrow margin of three runs. The loss has brought down Chennai to the fifth position on the points table while RR are topping the table.

MS Dhoni scored his runs at a strike rate of almost 190 and gave the Royals a huge scare before eventually falling just short. CSK needed 21 off the final over with Sandeep Sharma being given the task of bowling to the mighty MS Dhoni. He started with a couple of wides and then was hit for two back-to-back sixes off the second and the third delivery. With the equation coming down to 7 from three Sandeep bowled back-to-back yorkers on target.

MS Dhoni who was playing his 200th game for CSK as the captain had the task of winning it with a six off the final ball. The stage was set for a glorious finish from him but Sandeep kept his cool once again and bowled a perfect yorker with CSK getting only one run and the Royals winning the game by three runs.

Meanwhile, after the close encounter, a 9-year-old tweet from MS Dhoni has taken the internet by storm. “Doesn’t matter which team wins, I am here for entertainment” Dhoni himself tweeted this back in 2014.

MS Dhoni batted for just a handful of deliveries before his knock against CSK. He walked out to bat at number eight and faced 17 balls, the most so far in IPL 2023. 32 is also the most he has scored this year so far. Dhoni also went past 5000 runs in the IPL this year.

After the game, CSK coach Stephen Fleming spoke on MS Dhoni’s knee injury and his overall fitness. Fleming noted that while Dhoni batted in the nets on a few occasions in Ranchi, he started his preparations a month before in the camp in Chennai.

“He is strong. He is nursing a knee injury which you can see in some of his movement, which is hindering him somewhat. Still what you saw today [Wednesday]… a great player for us. His fitness has always been professional. He comes in months before the tournament starts, so he doesn’t get the opportunity to do a lot. To say fit, he does some netting in Ranchi, but his main pre-season is a month before he comes to Chennai” concluded Fleming.
