Nikhil Chopra, a former cricketer, believes that Suryakumar Yadav should be chosen for the World Cup roster due to his outstanding performance in T20 cricket over the previous calendar year. His ability to help his team win games is evidenced by his over 1000 runs scored and over 180 strike rate.

Although Suryakumar Yadav has had great success in the game’s shorter formats, he still finds it difficult to have an effect in the 50-over design. He is a great player, though, and with more exposure and opportunities, he might even be able to build a name for himself in the One Day International format.

Suryakumar was never a member of India’s first-choice lineup despite his dominance in T20Is, where he is the top-ranked batsman. Nonetheless, Shreyas Iyer, India’s traditional No.4 in ODIs, suffered a back injury and was unable to play in the series, allowing Suryakumar the chance to secure a place in the World Cup.

Unfortunately for the batsman, he returned with three golden ducks, including two in the opening two games off unplayable deliveries from Mitchell Starc and one against Ashton Agar. He was mocked by well-known cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar, and Zaheer Khan proposed that he be removed from the World Cup strategy.

Nikhil Chopra, an ex-India cricketer, believes otherwise and hopes Suryakumar Yadav makes the World Cup squad, which will be held in India later this year.

“What Suryakumar Yadav has shown in the last year, scoring more than 1000 runs in T20s with a strike rate of over 180, I hope he makes it to the World Cup squad. When he starts to get runs sky is the limit. When he performs, he will win you games. He bats with a mindset of winning the matches so I just hope that he is a part of the XI and the Indian team persists with him,” the former cricketer told News18 CricketNext.

“The more he plays, the more he will gain experience and will win more games for the team. To me he is a find we should take care of him and persist with him,” he added.

Suryakumar Yadav needs to work on his approach in the 50-over format to make an impact. He needs to be more patient and play according to the situation. He should also focus on rotating the strike and taking singles instead of going for big shots all the time.
