Former South African cricketer and current Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher have backed Suryakumar Yadav in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023. The 30-year-old batsman has been in sensational form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the last three years, scoring 1,890 runs in 58 matches at an average of 37.80.
In the game’s shortest format last year, Suryakumar Yadav was India’s leading man. He not only led the team in runs scored in T20Is in 2022, but he also reaffirmed his significance in the T20 lineup by scoring three centuries in the space of six months.
The star batsman, who was involved in a four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, made his Test debut but only managed to score 8 runs in the one innings he batted in. But, in the ODI series against Australia, he had the humiliation of getting three straight first-ball ducks, which could result in his expulsion from the ODI selection for the series that follows the IPL 2023.
Suryakumar Yadav is, after all, the top-ranked ICC T20I batter, unquestionably the best T20 batter in the world (and much more deservingly so than the handful who had this position before him). It should therefore come as no surprise that he might lead the Mumbai Indians to victory in the IPL 2023 despite the team’s top-order batting struggles in 2018. This might inspire the management and selectors to give him more chances in the ODI team.
IPL 2023 | India National Cricket Team | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Delhi Capitals (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)
“Suryakumar Yadav is probably the best T20 player”- Mark Boucher
Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher though, has backed him to deliver come the new season. “Surya is fine. Hopefully, the crowd will cheer for him and he’ll get back to business. He is probably the best T20 player in the world,” Boucher said in a pre-season press conference.
Suryakumar Yadav may be given another chance in the Indian ODI team if he performs well in the IPL 2023.
Mumbai Indians will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first match of the season on Sunday, April 2.
