Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen recently revealed his advice to India’s out-of-form former captain Virat Kohli. Pietersen believes Covid harmed Kohli because the former India captain enjoys playing in front of large crowds and is an entertainer. He recalls telling the Indian batter to ease up.

Kohli is preparing for the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which kicks off on Friday, March 31.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star has regained his form, scoring hundreds in each of the three formats since last year, when he resumed playing international cricket after a brief absence. In a video posted by Betway, Pietersen shared the facts of his conversation with Kohli.

He said:  “Virat, I’ve known for a very long time. The way that he plays the game. So passionate, so abrasive, so emotional. I think Covid hurt him. I said it to him. ‘Just chill, dude, it’s Covid, you’re an entertainer. You cannot play with three people and their dog watching you play cricket,” Kevin Pietersen said.

“They say it’s like the Champions League” – Kevin Pietersen

According to Kevin Pietersen, both Kohli and De Villiers emphasized the fact that the IPL is a top-level tournament that brings together some of the best T20 players from around the world. They likened it to the Champions League, which is considered one of the most prestigious club competitions in football.

Kevin Pietersen added that the IPL provides a platform for players to showcase their skills and compete in a highly competitive environment, which ultimately helps them improve as cricketers. He also noted that the commercial success of the IPL has made it an integral part of the cricketing calendar, with teams and players eager to participate every year.

“All the best players know, they block out their two months of the year, that’s when they’re going to go and do their service. There’s a lot of pressure. I remember speaking to De Villiers and Kohli about this three or four years ago. They say it’s like the Champions League,” Kevin Pietersen added.
