Heading into the first match, both teams have a few key players missing. A few of them are ruled out due to injury while a few others are busy with national commitments and still to join the side.

The batting form of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be the subplot of this match. Both scores some important runs in the Test series against Australia leading into the IPL. There have been a lot of talk about the premier Indian batters needing to score a lot of runs in the build-up to the World Cup. How the fitness of these big Indian players are monitored throughout the IPL is another important observation.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

As said earlier, the batting form of Virat Kohli is the greatest blessing of RCB heading into the season. He scored five centuries across formats in the last few months which included T20I, ODI, and Test centuries. There are huge expectations for him to replicate his 2016 batting form.

Key players are missing from the RCB camp. Wanindu Hasaranga is unavailable for the first game as Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood is unavailable for the first half of the season. The fitness of Glenn Maxwell is also a concern for RCB. The team has good options to choose from but is slightly weak on the spin with Hasaranga missing.

Mumbai Indians

MI finished last in IPL 2022 and have a job on its hands to resurrect its campaign. Rohit Sharma will be under the pump as a skipper after the franchise finished last in IPL 2022.

They have been jolted early with Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of the season. This is a body blow for the franchise as they do not have any other regular India pacer on the side. After missing out on IPL 2022 Jofra Archer will be back for the franchise. It will be interesting to see how he bowls.

The likes of Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Ishan Kishan is the India batting core and the likes of Cameron Green and Tim David make it a good top brilliant top four.
