The gameday 2 from the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw some exciting encounters brought to our screens as Punjab Kings managed to come out on top in a rain-scarred game against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Mohali. Similarly, Lucknow Super Giants who were playing at home manage to edge past Delhi Capitals in their opening fixture.
Earlier, in the day Nitish Rana won the toss and invited the Punjab Kings to have a go with the bat first. The Shikhar Dhawan-led side had a great start to the IPL with the bat as they put up a respectable 191 runs on the board at the loss of 5 wickets thanks to a blistering fifty from Bhanuka Rajapaksa followed by some crucial knocks from Dhawan, and debutant Sikandar Raza and Sam Curran.
Arshdeep Singh as always was once again lethal with the ball as he brought the Knights down to their knees in the powerplay. Chasing the big targets, the away team lost some additional wickets which put pressure on Andre Russell who as history repeats was dismissed by former CSK all-rounder Sam Curran.
However, the game could not reach a conclusion in normal game time as rain interrupted the play at Mohali and with no signs of stopping, Punjab Kings were awarded the win under the DLS Method.

The second game of the day saw LSG come out on top at home as they beat David Warner’s DC by 50 runs to clinch their first win of the season in their opening fixture. Batting first Lucknow had a rough start losing skipper KL Rahul early but following the dismissal it was a one-man show from Kyle Mayers who thrashed the opposition scoring 73 runs off just 38 deliveries. Nicholas Pooran made full use of the platform provided by his fellow West Indian compatriot as he provided the finishing touches scoring 36 off 21 deliveries as LSG put up 193 runs on the board.
Delhi chasing the massive total had a decent start as David Warner and Prithvi Shaw started off well adding 41 runs for the 1st wicket, but LSG pulled the game back in their favour picking up 3 wickets within the next 7 runs and pushing the chasing side on the hind legs. Warner alongside Rilee Rossouw had a 38 runs stand for the 4th wicket but the partnership ended early with Rossouw being dismissed for 30 off 20 deliveries.
At the end of the day, the target was too much for Delhi as they lost the game by a massive margin of 50 runs to give Lucknow Super Giants a win in their opening game.
