Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has been left baffled by India’s bowling performances in the ongoing ODI series in Australia. By losing the first two ODIs, both of which were high-scoring ones, India conceded the rubber to Australia. With the visiting bowlers leaking 350 runs consecutively, Irfan Pathan has questioned their consistency.

The likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, who are one of the most consistent and effective bowlers in white-ball cricket, had no answers to Australian batsmen’s assaults. Not only has Steve Smith milked runs against them with ease but also they have allowed the hosts to build century opening stands twice. While the Indian batting line-up has the goods, to chase 375 and 390 in the first two games was always a daunting task as they lost by 66 and 51 runs respectively.

It is imperative to note that only the bowling has not been responsible for their couple of defeats, their poor fielding has proved as much a culprit alongside team selections. Despite having the likes of T Natarajan and Kuldeep Yadav in the bench, India stuck with Navdeep Saini and Yuzvendra Chahal in consecutive games. Saini recorded figures of 10-0-83-1 and 7-0-70-0 while Chahal had 10-0-89-1 and 9-0-71-0 in the first two ODIs. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah has had figures of 10-0-73-1 and 10-1-79-1 while Mohammed Shami with 10-0-59-3 and 9-0-73-1 respectively.

Irfan Pathan took to his official Twitter handle and mentioned that Indian bowlers are top quality ones; however, their consistency levels are poor. Irfan Pathan underlined that it was all about adaptability in Australia by finding the right length quickly, something which has not happened.
