Richa Ghosh, India’s wicketkeeper-batter, is relishing the role of a finisher and hopes to advance in it.

The 19-year-old was instrumental in India’s Super Against victory over Australia in the second Women’s T20I on Sunday in Mumbai (December 11).

In order to help India square the match by matching Australia’s 187, she hammered 26 not out off 13 balls with three sixes. She then backed that up with a six off the first ball of the Super Over.

On the eve of the third T20I, Ghosh stated, “Smriti Mandhana had instructed me to come after finishing it, so I just did it.”

“Power striking has always been my main priority. I put a lot of effort into it and concentrated on my mental toughness. Everything went as planned, calling the second T20I knock the best of her career thus far,” Richa Ghosh added.

“I always aim to stay to the end and win for my squad.” We had a strategy in place. The plan was to keep the run flow going in the middle overs so we wouldn’t have to work too hard in the slog overs.”

It seems sensible that the Siliguri girl idolized the legendary MS Dhoni, who was renowned for his match-winning heroics under extreme pressure.

“Since childhood, I’ve followed Dhoni and how he used to finish the game,” she said.

“My dad also helped a lot to hone my power-hitting skills, he would go with me everywhere. He could not go on to become a successful cricketer so he’s backing me fully to chase my dreams.”

Ghosh, however, has a regret — not being able to meet her idol yet.

“I haven’t had the opportunity to meet him yet. There have been times when he would leave just before we were in for a camp or a match at a venue. Hopefully, I’ll meet him someday,” she stated.

India on Sunday defeated Australia in the second T20I after the match had gone into a Super Over at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
