Jitesh Sharma IPL Career

Jitesh Sharma is an Indian cricketer who plies his trade for Team India in international cricket. In domestic cricket, he represents Vidarbha while in the Indian Premier League, he plays for Punjab Kings. He is a wicketkeeper-batsman.

Before making his IPL debut in 2022, Sharma had to toil hard for years in domestic cricket. He broke into the Vidarbha senior side in 2013-14 season after impressing in Cooch Behar Trophy. He made his List A and T20 debut in 2014 and first-class debut in 2015.

In the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Sharma enjoyed a good outing with the bat and finished the competition as the third-highest run-scorer. He scored 343 runs at a strike-rate of almost 145 including a century and a couple of half-centuries.

In 2022, he made his IPL debut for Punjab Kings and impressed as a finisher. Later in 2023, he made his T20I debut for Team India as well and has played 9 T20Is so far.

After Jitesh Sharma impressed in the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he earned his first IPL contract. Jitesh Sharma's first IPL team was Mumbai Indians who signed him up at his base price of INR 10 lakh in the IPL 2016 auction. However, he struggled to find a place in Mumbai Indians' star-studded playing eleven and Jitesh Sharma's IPL career did not kickstart.

He stayed with the team for two seasons before being released ahead of IPL 2018 mega auction. However, he kept doing well in domestic cricket and was eventually rewarded with another IPL contract. In the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored 214 runs at a strike rate of over 230.

Sharma had hit 13 fours and 18 sixes in 8 games in the tournament and was signed up by Punjab Kings for INR 20 lakh. He made his debut against reigning champions Chennai Super Kings and went on to impress in his debut IPL campaign.

In IPL 2022, he scored 234 runs at a strike rate of more than 160. In 2023, he did better, scoring 309 runs at a strike rate of 156.06. In IPL 2024, Sharma scored 187 runs and also led the team towards the end of the competition.

Jitesh Sharma has been bought in the IPL auction two times. On both occasions, he was bought at his base price. In 2016, Mumbai Indians bought him for INR 10 lakh before Punjab Kings bought him for INR 20 lakh in IPL 2022 mega auction.
