After the drawn one-of Test India women and England women face-off in a three-match ODI series starting with the first game in Bristol later today. The Indian women cricketers will take a lot of confidence out of that drawn game against a heavyweight England side. The Indian youngsters performed in that game while the senior players missed their opportunity to score big.
Both the team are coming into this series with opposite results in their previous series. India lost 4-1 to South Africa at home, while England beat New Zealand 2-1. The series will be the start of India’s preparations for the 2022 Women’s World Cup.
Both teams have a very different make-up for the series. While the England side is rich on experience, there is a good blend of youth and experience in the Indian side. Jhulan Goswami will lead the attack with the ball with Shikha Pandey, Rasha Yadav, Poonam Yadav, and Ekta Bisht in support.
With the bat, all eyes will be on how Shafali Verma approaches the series after her memorable Test debut. The veterans Mithali and Harmanpreet will look to make up for their lack of runs in the three ODIs.
England, have a lot of options to look forward to. Tammy Beaumont scored 231 runs against New Zealand earlier this year and will look to continue her good form. Captain Heather Knight, vice-captain Nat Sciver, and wicket-keeper Amy Jones form their batting core in the middle-order. Katherine Brunt, Anya Shrubsole, and Sophie Ecclestone form a formidable batting trio for England women.
