He anchored South Africa’s innings with a heart-warming 121-run knock of 135 balls. There were vital contributions from the other batsmen too. He made crucial partnerships with all five players in the top six and played till the 45th over of the innings.

He stitched a 43-run opening partnership with Aiden Markram (21 off 29 balls) before sharing a 96-run stand with R Hendricks for the second wicket. Hendricks scored 51 runs off 54 balls before he was undone by Dhananjaya de Silva in the 28th over. Van der Dussen (16 off 25) and Klaasen (43 off 27) also chipped in vital contributions.

For Sri Lanka, C Karunaratne was the pick of the bowlers. He picked 2 for 24 in 5 overs, while Chameera also picked 2 wickets as well. Hasaranga was slightly expensive, finishing with returns of 1 for 63 in 10 overs.

Sri Lanka made an awful start in the second innings. Kagiso Rabada, who endured a forgettable outing in the last game, took two wickets in a single over to leave Sri Lanka on the back foot at 18 for 2 in 5 overs. Mulder claimed another one in the next over to add further pressure.

Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka resurrected the innings and added 64 runs for the fifth wicket. However, the duo got out at crucial stages in the game. Asalanka made 77 off 69 balls, while Shanaka scored 30 off 41.
