The much-awaited Ashes Test series got underway on Wednesday. The first Test match is currently being played at The Gabba in Brisbane. The Australian Cricket Team set the tone with a thrilling bowling performance on day 1 of the first Test. Playing his first game as the full-time captain of the Australia Cricket Team, Pat Cummins picked a five-wicket haul.

Mitchell Starc took the first blood after removing Rory Burns on the very ball of the match. He went back to the pavilion without opening his account. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals thereafter and England saw themselves getting bundled out for 147.

Notably, three batsmen in the English batting line-up got out on a duck. England skipper Joe Root and Ollie Robinson also got out without opening their account. Well, this isn’t the only occasion when players have got out on a duck in Test Cricket this year.

There have been a number of times when the players got out without scoring a run in Tests in 2021. Not only the bowlers but also the batsmen have found themselves getting out. On that note, let’s take a look at five batsmen who have scored the most ducks in Tests in 2021

Most Ducks In Tests In 2021

  1. Jasprit Bumrah: 7

Indian fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah has been brilliant for India across formats this year. He bowled exceedingly well in the whites. In the home Test series against England, Bumrah didn’t get a lot of overs to bowl, still, he managed to pick 4 wickets in 2 Tests.

Bumrah was India’s highest wicket-taker when they travelled to England for a five-match Test series. He picked as many as 18 wickets in 4 Tests at an average of 20.83. In 7 Tests this year, he has managed to pick 25 wickets at an average of 29.20.

Besides picking those wickets, Bumrah has also made an unwanted record to his name. In 2021, no other cricketer has scored the most ducks than Jasprit Bumrah in Test Cricket. He has 7 ducks to his name.

  1. Rory Burns: 6

England opener, Rory Burns endured a forgettable outing on the first day of the first Ashes Test on Wednesday. The Southpaw was cleaned up on the very first ball he faced off Mitchell Starc. He came too much across on the off-side and the ball swung late to hit the wickets. Well, this isn’t the first time when Burns has got out on a duck this year.

Burns has fared quite well this year with the bat. In 9 Tests, he has managed to score 479 runs at an average of close to 30. Having said that, he has also got out on a duck on 6 occasions in Test Cricket this year. There’s no doubt about Burn’s potential with the bat but getting out on zero in 6 innings out of 9 Tests tells you that he is a nervous starter. We might witness more ducks from him in the times to come.

  1. James Anderson: 4

England has opted to sit James Anderson out for the first Test against Australia in a bid to make him fully fit for the pink-ball Test in Adelaide. Anderson is currently the third-highest wicket-taker in the history of Test Cricket. He is, unarguably, the most successful bowler for England in Test Cricket history.

The England cricketer though isn’t too adept with the bat. He has often got out on a duck in his Test Cricket career. In 233 innings in Test Cricket, Anderson has got out on a duck on 30 occasions. In 2021, Anderson got out for nought 4 times in Test Cricket.

  1. Jonny Bairstow: 4

There is no denying that Jonny Bairstow is one of the best batsmen for England in white-ball cricket. Widely regarded as one of the most destructive batsmen in modern-day cricket, Bairstow has an average of over 45 in ODIs. However, the English batsman is yet to become an integral cog in the England Test team. He isn’t part of England’s playing XI for the ongoing first Test against Australia.

Bairstow has played 8 Tests for England this year. He has scored 351 runs at a dismal average of 25.07. Notably, he has got out on a duck 4 times in 2021 in Test Cricket, which is the third joint-most number of times.

  1. Roy Kaia: 4

For the unversed, Roy Kaia is a Zimbabwean cricketer who made his international ODI debut in May 2015. His Test debut, however, came recently against Pakistan in April 2021. So far, he has managed to play 3 Tests for the team, all of them played this year. He has scored 59 runs in 3 Tests at an average of 9.83, with a top score of 48. Notably, the Zimbabwe cricketer has got out on a duck 4 times in Test Cricket this year.
