MS Dhoni’s future in international cricket has taken yet another surprising turn. The former India skipper has not played any competitive game since the conclusion of India’s campaign in the World Cup. MS Dhoni scored a fifty in a losing cause in the semifinal before deciding to take a two-month break from the game.

Prior to the decision of taking the break, speculations were rife that MS Dhoni would bow out of the game after the World Cup. The legendary batsman had faced criticism for his uncharacteristic knocks with even some former cricketers taking shots at him. But the 37-year old managed to divert the attention from him by taking the break.

Consequently, he was not considered for the tour of the West Indies where India played three T20Is, three ODIs as well as three Tests. The former India skipper then surprisingly made himself unavailable for the ongoing T20I series against South Africa too.

And while everyone was expecting the World Cup-winner to make his comeback to international cricket through the home series against Bangladesh, he has reportedly made himself unavailable once again. India will play a T20I series at home against the Tigers but Dhoni will not be a part of it, according to Mumbai Mirror.

Dhoni is expected to make a return either for the West Indies series or Australia series next year. India woll play Zimbabwe in three T20Is before Australia series. The extended vacation also means Dhoni will be unavailable for Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy that starts on September 24. Dhoni had played the List A tournament in 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons but hasn’t played domestic cricket for past two years.

Once he returns to the team, he is likely to replace Rishabh Pant who needs some much-needed rest. Pant has been playing non-stop since the tour of Australia towards the end of last year.
