IND vs NZ 2021: Good Start For Shreyas Iyer In His Test Career: Rohit Sharma

Indian batsman Rohit Sharma congratulated Indian batter Shreyas Iyer for his brilliant start to his Test career. Shreyas made his Test debut on Thursday against New Zealand at the Greenpark Stadium in Kanpur. He remained unbeaten on 75 at the end of Day 1’s gameplay.

Shreyas Iyer made fifty on his Test debut

Iyer came into bat when India were 106/3, having lost both its openers to Kyle Jamieson followed by senior batter Cheteshwar Pujara’s departure.

Iyer smashed seven boundaries and a couple of sixes in his stupendous innings. The Mumbai batter lofted Ajaz Patel for a six over wide long-on and smoked another one over mid-wicket off William Somerville’s bowling.

Rohit Sharma, who has been rested by the BCCI for the first Test, said his Mumbai teammate marked a good start to his Test career. “Good start to the test career @ShreyasIyer15,” Rohit tweeted.

Shreyas Iyer-Ravindra Jadeja escalates India’s score

Iyer was also involved in an inseparable 113-run stand with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for the fifth wicket.

Jadeja remained unbeaten on 50 at the end of Day 1 as India’s score read 258 for four wickets down after 84 overs.

Jadeja played two brilliant shots against Kyle Jamieson in the 82nd over, he first glanced nicely to put one boundary in the square-leg region. He followed it with a punch, playing at the backfoot, towards the cover area for successive boundaries.

Earlier in the day, Indian opener Shubman Gill smashed 52 from 93 balls on his return to the Indian Test side. Gill’s opening partner Mayank Agarwal could just add 13 to the team’s total.

New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson was the best bowler from his side as he scalped three wickets at the expense of 47 runs.
