Indian opening batsman Mayank Agarwal has said that newly-appointed India Head Coach Rahul Dravid is very approachable, as a player can just have a call with him and share anything he wants to.

Dravid was appointed as the new India coach after the exit of Ravi Shastri following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 where India failed to reach the semi-finals and were eliminated in the Super12 stage.

India National Cricket Team played amazing under Coach Ravi Shastri across all three formats and developed themselves as a dominating force. However, they failed to win any major ICC trophy during Shastri’s tenure and Dravid will have a big responsibility to end India’s trophy drought.

Meanwhile, talking about Mayank Agarwal he has not been included in India’s T20I squad for the series against New Zealand. However, he has been named in India’s Test squad and he has been having practice sessions with Test specialist players in Mumbai.

Speaking about Dravid to Press Trust of India Mayank said:

There are a few points that I would want to talk to him about and he has been approachable,”

“And it is not only now, even before, when we were part of India A, we could just pick up the phone and speak to him and share what was on our mind. He is very approachable that way,” he added.

India will play the three-match T20 Internationals series against New Zealand which will begin from 17 November at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, the second T20I will be played at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi on November 19, and the third T20I at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on November 21.

After that, the teams will also lock horns on the two-Test matches the first Test match of the series will begin on November 25 at Green Park, Kanpur and the second Test will commence from December 3 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Notably, Agarwal was set to open the innings with Rohit Sharma in the 5-match Test series against England but he was ruled out of the first Test match after getting hit by a bouncer in the nets and KL Rahul replaced him at the top order. However, now it is expected that he will be given the opening slot in the New Zealand Test series due to the absence of Rohit Sharma from the team.

Mayank Agarwal while talking about his sensational run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 said that he was very happy with the way he performed. He said:

I think, I was very happy with the way I have performed (in the IPL). I have really grown into the role that the team expected of me and I have been an aggressor upfront and whenever the opportunity presented; I looked to bat through the innings,”
