Indian legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar applauded Shreyas Iyer on getting his maiden Test hundred against New Zealand on Day 2.
Iyer, who made his Test debut for India in the ongoing first Test at the Green Park in Kanpur, made 105 from 171 balls at the strike rate of 61.4.
Shreyas Iyer was solid against Kyle Jamieson
Iyer added 30 runs to his overnight score of 75, he flicked Kyle Jamieson for a four on the first ball he faced in the day.
He didn’t stop his attack against Jamiseon, smashing three more boundaries against him before he got a couple of runs to bring up his maiden hundred in the 92nd over.
Iyer was caught by Will Young off Tim Southee’s bowling to halt his stupendous knock on 105.
Great start to your Test career: Sachin Tendulkar to Shreyas Iyer
Tendulkar said that Iyer made a great start to his Test career and it was great for him to be part of India’s Test squad.
“Great start to your Test career, @ShreyasIyer15. Nice to see you as a part of #TeamIndia in ‘whites’. Good luck!” Tendulkar tweeted.
Iyer’s overnight partner Ravindra Jadeja made a brilliant 50 in their 121-run stand but did not add anything on the second day as he got knocked by Southee.
Southee also got the wickets of Wriddhiman Saha and Axar Patel to end his spell with five wickets for 69 runs as India’s innings folded up at 345.
Ravichandran Ashwin scored 39 before his stumps were cleaned up by his spin counterpart Ajaz Patel, who also trapped Ishant Sharma before the wicket to end India’s inning.
Earlier on Day 1, Shubman Gill started the Indian innings with a brisk fifty with senior batters Cheteshwar Pujara (26) and Ajinkya Rahane (35) added some handful of runs.
Jamieson, who had picked three wickets on Day 1 for the Black Caps, could not add more to his tally on the second day.
