IND vs NZ 2021: Watch - Virat Kohli Hits Boundary Rope With Bat After Being Given Out In A Controversial Decision In Mumbai Test

India captain Virat Kohli was fuming when he was given out for a duck in a controversial manner during the first innings in Mumbai against New Zealand.

Virat Kohli was given out lbw by on-field umpire Anil Chaudhary, off the bowling of left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel. The Indian skipper challenged the decision immediately.

It was really a tight decision to make for the third umpire, Virender Sharma, as the ball seemed to jag both pad and bat at the same time. However, from some angled, it looked as though Virat Kohli had edged it, which he seemed to suggest to Nitin Menon, another on-field umpire.

The third umpire was heard saying he didn’t have conclusive evidence that the ball had hit the bat first. Hence, he went with the on-field call of ‘out’ and checked for ball-tracking, which showed the ball hitting the stumps, and the Indian skipper was declared out.

He was clearly unhappy with this and stood at the pitchside to talk to Menon, explaining that he had indeed nicked it.

On his way to the dressing room, an annoyed and frustrated Virat Kohli slammed the boundary rope with his bat. He is likely to cop a fine for this act.

Ajaz Patel rattled India with three wickets

The Mumbai-born Ajaz Patel has rattled India with three quick strikes after an 80-run opening stand between Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill. Gill was fluent in his 44-run knock, which he had started with three boundaries off Kyle Jamieson.

Both the right-handers hit a six each off the Kiwi spinners. But Patel soon found a way to dismiss Gill, who edged to the first slip after he’d been given a life by wicket-keeper Tom Blundell.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli both were dismissed for ducks. Pujara was bowled after the ball took a deflection off his pads, and Kohli was trapped lbw; the Indian skipper did look unhappy about his dismissal. India pushed at 80/3.
