Notably, Jasprit Bumrah is still missing from all the squads announced by the BCCI for the New Zealand series.

Prithvi Shaw made a comeback in the IND vs NZ T20Is but wasn’t selected for the IND vs NZ ODIs. He has played only 5 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 1 T20I and has amassed 339 runs averaging 42.37 in Tests and 189 runs averaging 31.5 in ODIs. Prithvi Shaw last played for the national team in July on Sri Lanka 2021 tour and was out for a first-ball duck on his T20I debut (the only T20I he played). He has played 6 ODIs, scoring 189 runs and 5 Tests with 339 runs with one century to his name.

He was the 2nd highest run-getter with 332 runs averaging 36.88 in 10 games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 at a strike rate of 181.42. With 315 runs, including two hundred and a fifty, he finished third highest run-getter in the Duleep Trophy 2022-23.

The opening batter’s strike rate of 92.92, was the highest in the competition among players who scored more than 21 runs. Recently, he scored an incredible 379 off 383 in the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 and made the second-highest Ranji Trophy score of all time.

Arshdeep Singh is one of the candidates for the Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award was announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The left-arm Indian pacer is yet to pick a wicket after playing 3 ODIs (all against New Zealand) (2 abandoned) but has been impressive in T20Is, picking 36 scalps in 23 T20Is since debuting against England in July 2022. He averages an impressive 18.19 with the ball in hand in T20Is. He should’ve been given a chance in the IND vs NZ ODI series after he was benched for all 3 ODIs against Sri Lanka.

With the ODI World Cup 2023 set to take place soon, India’s long-time designated opener in the format – Shikhar Dhawan, was dropped from the ODI squad currently facing Sri Lanka. The 37-year-old’s form and strike rate have been a constant talking point of late, especially with the likes of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan delivering with the bat at the opening slot in the limited opportunities they have got in the recent past.

As far as his ODI career is concerned, Shikhar Dhawan played 167 matches and amassed 6793 runs at an average of 44.11 with 17 centuries and 39 fifties. Overall, in his last ten ODIs, Shikhar Dhawan has registered scores of 3, 8, 7, 28, 3, 72, 8, 13, 4, and 40.  He scored three single-digit scores in the series against Bangladesh. He deserved a place in the Indian team for the IND vs NZ ODIs to prove that he’s not finished yet.
