India will take on New Zealand in the third and final T20I of the three-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, February 1. Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim believes that Prithvi Shaw will not be included in the playing XI for the series decider, claiming that openers need a long rope to secure their places.
Openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill struggled against the Kiwi bowlers in the T20I series and failed to provide a good start in the power play. In the first two innings of this series, Kishan scored 23 runs while Gill managed only 18 runs. The left-handed batter, who had not scored a fifty in his previous 13 innings, scored 19 runs off 32 balls in the second T20I.

Want Shubman Gill To Become A Three-Format Player – Saba Karim
Speaking to India News, Saba Karim said that it was a good decision by the team management to bring Prithvi Shaw back into the T20I setup. The cricketer-turned-commentator believes the Mumbai opening batter should wait for his turn.
“It’s good that you have brought back Prithvi Shaw into the system. If he stays with the team then it will build discipline inside him. You can monitor or guide him. Rahul Dravid is there. It’s not necessary to play him. I accept that he has talent and ability. We want Shubman Gill to become a three-format player, so should we tell him that it’s enough? The same goes for Ishan Kishan,” Saba Karim said.

In his last four of his previous five T20I innings, Shubman Gill has failed to produce, scoring 7, 5, 46, 7, and 11 runs, respectively. Ishan Kishan’s scores in the previous five innings were 37, 2, 1, 4, and 19. His last fifty was against South Africa in June last year.
Prithvi Shaw was recalled to the Indian team after performing well in domestic cricket, and he played only one T20I for the national team, in which he was dismissed for a golden duck.
