Sanjay Bangar believes India’s emphatic win over New Zealand in the second One-Day International may have left mental scars on the visitors.

On Saturday, January 21, the Men in Blue bowled out the Black Caps for 108 after requesting them to set a target. Then, with eight wickets and 179 deliveries to spare, Rohit Sharma and company cruised to an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

When questioned about his opinions on New Zealand’s disastrous batting performance during a talk on Star Sports, Sanjay Bangar reacted as follows:

“If New Zealand plays a knockout match against India in a significant event, these mental scars will remain in the players’ heads, that winning the Indian team is nearly impossible. Such victories have a long-term impact”

Sanjay Bangar believes the Kiwis would be highly unhappy if they were found wanting in relatively familiar circumstances, explaining: “They would be quite dissatisfied since the seamen bothered them and got them out. Seaming conditions are always mentioned in New Zealand cricket, but to be in such a situation in two consecutive matches is cause for concern.”

“Most of the wickets came on fuller-length deliveries”: Sanjay Bangar

The Indian bowlers were commended by Sanjay Bangar for pitching the ball high and not overusing the short deliveries before he gave his closing remarks. He explained:

“When they ponder on this, they notice how all of the bowlers kept their length and only used the short ball when it was necessary. The majority of the wickets came on fuller-length deliveries, which I believe was a really excellent adjustment they made and is what the bowlers need to do.”

Mohammad Shami’s incisive spell of 3/18 in six overs earned him the title of Player of the Match. Each of the other Indian bowlers contributed to his success by taking at least one wicket.
