Wasim Jaffer, a former Indian opener, shared his thoughts ahead of the third T20I and urged the hosts to make a significant change to their starting lineup.

Team India, led by Hardik Pandya, will take against the Black Caps in the series finale at Ahmedabad on Wednesday with the goal of completing a historic double victory over New Zealand in limited-overs cricket. At the renowned Narendra Modi Stadium, the hosts will take on Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand after regaining parity in Lucknow.

Wasim Jaffer stated on ESPN Cricinfo’s Timeout that the Kiwi’s difficulties against spinners are good news for Chahal in Ahmedabad. He stated:

“As spinners are difficult for New Zealand to bat against, Yuzvendra Chahal would be preferable. If India has a wrist spinner, they must use it. As I mentioned previously, Umran Malik struggles in T20 cricket. He is yet to learn the variations needed to succeed in this format. So, in that way, Chahal is a better option.”

In the second T20I match against New Zealand in Lucknow, Chahal, who came in for Malik, bowled an outstanding stint. In the third over of the innings, after receiving the ball from Hardik Pandya, the 32-year-old recorded figures of 2-1-4-1. He got rid of Finn Allen in his first over.

“I’m not concerned a lot about Ishan Kishan”: Wasim Jaffer

Wasim Jaffer agreed that Rahul Tripathi should keep playing his natural game and wasn’t too bothered about his recent setbacks. He asserts that there is room in the lineup for Prithvi Shaw, saying:

“He should continue to play the way he does. You don’t want the run rate to increase any further, and you shouldn’t restrain your attacking instincts. We’ve seen before how wonderfully he plays spin. On pitches like this, though, the advantage goes to the bowlers” Wasim Jaffer said.

“So I wouldn’t be too concerned. If India decides to make a move, Prithvi Shaw, who is in fantastic form and is better suited for T20 cricket, might replace Shubman Gill. But otherwise, I’m not concerned a lot about Ishan Kishan and Rahul Tripathi,” Wasim Jaffer added.

Tripathi scored five runs in his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in Pune. In the following game, he made amends by crushing a 16-ball 35 in Rajkot. However, Tripathi’s performance against the Kiwis in the first two T20Is was only 0 and 13.
