A horrible mix-up between the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli and the wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan led to the latter’s run-out in the third ODI of the three-match series between India and New Zealand on Tuesday, January 24.

The third ODI between the teams is a dead rubber contest as India have already sealed the series after winning the first two matches in Hyderabad and Raipur respectively. The dead rubber match is currently underway at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

Kishan came out to bat after the dismissal of centurion Shubman Gill on the last ball of the 28th over. The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter failed to play a big knock on the batting-friendly pitch and got dismissed for just 17 runs off 24 balls. His 17-run knock consisted of one four and one six.

Meanwhile, the run-out happened on the 3rd ball of the 35th over, which was bowled by Jacob Duffy. Duffy bowled a good length ball to Kishan pitching on the off-stump and the wicketkeeper-batter tapped the ball straight to cover and called for a single.

Virat Kohli looked slightly hesitant initially but once he ran he never looked back and kept sprinting to the other end. Kishan, however, was ball-watching and changed his mind and decided to turn his back after running halfway down the wicket.

Kishan then tried to run back and slide the bat in but Kohli was already home by then. Henry Nicholls quickly collected the ball and knocked off the bails after running to the stumps at the bowling end and Kishan sacrificed his wicket.
