The 30-year-old New Zealand National Cricket Team left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner bamboozled the 34-year-old India National Cricket Team star batter Virat Kohli in the ODI series opener on Wednesday, January 18.

The first ODI of the three-match series between the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and the Tom Latham-led New Zealand National Cricket Team is being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad.

The modern-day batting great Virat Kohli has been in sensational form and he started off the year on a great note. Kohli delivered a sensational performance in the series against Sri Lanka and helped his side register a 3-0 whitewash over the visitors.

The 34-year-old slammed 283 runs at an outstanding average of 141.50 and an excellent strike rate of 137.37, including two centuries, and finished as the top run-getter. He also won the Player of the Series award.

However, Kohli failed to play a big knock for India in the ODI series opener against the Tom Latham-led Black Caps.

Kohli was castled by the premier Kiwi spinner Santner on the second ball of the 16th over and he managed to contribute just 8 runs off 10 balls, including one four, and India were reduced to 88/2.

Santner bowled a good length ball on off-stump from round the wicket to Kohli and the Indian batter misjudged the length. He stayed back to defend the ball, but it demanded a front foot press. The ball went past the outside edge to hit the top of the off-stump and Kohli looked in disbelief after his dismissal.
