After the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka, Team India will now face New Zealand for a three-match ODI and T20I series at home. The series continues the team’s preparations for the ODI World Cup later this year.

Rohit Sharma will lead India in the ODI series while Hardik Pandya will continue to lead the side in the T20I series. Tom Latham will lead the Kiwis in the ODI series while Mitchell Santner will lead the side in the T20I series. Kane Williamson has been rested for the series after the Kiwis won their maiden ODI series against Pakistan in Pakistan.

New Zealand last played an ODI series against India in November 2022. They won the first ODI in Auckland. The next two in Hamilton and Christchurch were washed out due to rain. India are the top-ranked T20I side while the Kiwis are placed fifth in the rankings.

The series is slated to begin on January 18 with the first ODI in Hyderabad. The second and third ODI will be played in Raipur (January 21) and Indore (January 24). Both teams then play a three-match T20I series. The T20Is will be played in Ranchi (January 27), Lucknow (January 29), and Ahmedabad (February 1) respectively.

The Kiwis are the top-ranked ODI side while Team India are placed fourth at the moment. Both teams have played close contests in recent times. The Kiwis registered their most famous ODI win against India when they knocked out the side from the World Cup 2019 in the semifinal.

The first IND vs NZ ODI will be played on January 18 from 1.30 pm local time. The venue last hosted an India vs Australia T20I game last year. The Uppal ground is among the best batting grounds in India. So far six ODIs have been played at this venue with three won by the team batting first and three chasings. It’s a high-scoring venue with an average first innings score close to 280 and average second innings total beyond 250. 

Talking about the weather, the temperature in the morning will be around 31 degrees. It will stay around 30 degrees in the afternoon accompanied by hazy sunlight. In the evening, it will drop down to 20 degrees as the sky will clear out. Humidity will be around 55 percent with no chance of rain. However, dew might be expected to play a part in the contest.
