NZ vs IND:- India Playing 11 vs New Zealand, 3rd ODI, 2023.  India will look to complete a whitewash against the Black Caps in the third ODI at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Tuesday (January 24). A win in the third ODI will help Rohit Sharma’s Team India catapult over both New Zealand and England into the No. 1 position in the ICC men’s ODI ranking.

Rohit Sharma’s side have already won the three-match ODI series against New Zealand 2-0 with a comprehensive win in the second ODI in Raipur on Saturday (January 21). New Zealand lost the 1st NZ vs IND ODI by 12 runs and the 2nd NZ vs IND ODI by 8 wickets.

In the 1st NZ vs IND ODI, Shubman Gill grabbed all the attraction with his record-breaking double ton, becoming the youngest batter to score a double century in ODIs. Shubman Gill smashed 208 runs in just 149 balls, smacking 19 fours & 9 sixes. However, the 2nd highest score in the team was Rohit Sharma’s 34 runs. Suryakumar Yadav scored 31 runs while none of the other batters managed to cross the 30-run mark.

Defending a total of 349, Indian bowlers were given a mighty scare by the Kiwi lower-order batters. However, the Mohammed Siraj-led Indian bowling attack bowled well to the top order, diminishing New Zealand to 131/6 in a high-run chase. Mohammed Siraj was yet again the top-wicket taker with 4 wickets to his name (4/46), while Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur registered 2 wickets each.

For New Zealand, Devon Conway had the most expectations on his back but failed to live up with just 10 runs to his name in the first NZ vs IND ODI. His opening partner Finn Allen scored 40 runs off 39 balls but failed to score bigger. After the specialist batters failed, Michael Bracewell came on and along with Mitchell Santner, brought the Kiwis unbelievably close to a win. Michael Bracewell scored 140 runs and was well-assisted by Mitchell Santner’s 57 runs.

The bowling was pretty average in the absence of Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Ish Sodhi as the Kiwis conceded a total of 349 runs while bowling first. Henry Shipley and Daryl Mitchell grabbed 2 wickets each while Lockie Ferguson, Blair Tickner, and Mitchell Santner managed 1 wicket each.

NZ vs IND 1st ODI: Brief Scores: India 349/8 (Shubman Gill 208, Rohit Sharma 34; Daryl Mitchell 2-30) won by 12 runs against New Zealand: 337 (Michael Bracewell 140, Mitchell Santner 57, Mohammed Siraj 4/46).

India has been on a roll in the ODI format and have they are on a 7-match winning streak currently. And with home World Cup 2023 later this year they would look to test some players to further strengthen their bench squad.

New Zealand on the other hand will look to end the series on a high. One expects a good contest despite the match being a dead rubber with a lot to play with an eye on the World Cup 2023.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma (51 runs) and Shubhan Gill (37 runs) made short work of the meagre target on board. Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya will be itching to make a big score in this match as they are due for one in this series.

Pacer Mohammed Shami ran through the kiwi top order with a spell of 6-1-18-3 in the match. Hardik Pandya (2/16), Mohammed Siraj (1/10), and Shardul Thakur (1/20) picked up wickets regularly at the other end. Spinners Washington Sundar (2/7) and Kuldeep Yadav (1/29) too continued the good work of pacers.

New Zealand were bowled out for just 108 runs in the last game. Glenn Philips top scored with 36 runs while the duo of Michael Bracewell (22 runs) and Mitchell Santner (27 runs) chipped in with small cameos in the middle order. Their top order players are yet to make a mark in this series and will be eyeing for this match as a opportunity.

Their bowlers were never in the contest with a small total on board. Mitchell Santner and Henry Shipley chipped in with a wicket each in the match. Blair Tickner and Lockie Ferguson were economical in their overs in the last game. Their bowlers were unable to stop the Indian batters so far in the series.

Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 40 off 53 deliveries, a knock studded with six fours. He was mostly content to give Rohit Sharma the strike during their 72-run opening-wicket partnership. Pacer Mohammed Shami proved his worth yet again, destroying the opposition New Zealand’s top-order and was awarded Man of the Match for picking 3/18 in the 2nd ODI.

Shubman Gill was Man of the series in the ODI series against West Indies and Zimbabwe where he amassed 205 and 245 runs respectively averaging 102.5 and 122.5. He hit his maiden century- a career-best 130 against Zimbabwe after scoring 98* against West Indies when rain intervened and he was denied a ton.

The Punjab opener is in tremendous ODI form as he hit back-to-back centuries against Sri Lanka (116) and New Zealand (208). His majestic 208 off just 149 balls in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI took India to 349/8. At 23 years & 132 days, Shubman Gill also became the youngest-ever player to score a double hundred in ODI.

Shubman Gill hit a staggering 19 fours and 9 sixes in his scintillating knock. He hit a hat-trick of sixes in the 49th over to bring his 200. He became the fifth Indian male cricketer to register an ODI double-century. He will look to continue in the same vein in the 3rd ODI of the NZ vs IND 3-match ODI series after scoring an unbeaten 40 in the 2nd ODI following his 208. He averages 71.38 having amassed 1142 runs in 20 ODIs.

Ishan Kishan

Young Ishan Kishan got his chance in the third and final inconsequential ODI against Bangladesh at Chattogram against Bangladesh after captain Rohit Sharma was ruled out due to an injury. Ishan Kishan eventually perished for 210 off 131 balls.

His innings was laced with 10 sixes and 24 boundaries. Ishan Kishan became the fourth Indian to hit a double hundred in ODI cricket. Ishan Kishan completed the 200 in just 126 deliveries, which is now the fastest double-hundred ever scored.

He was the first batter to convert his maiden ODI 100 to 200. In 12 ODIs, he has amassed 490 runs averaging 49 with 1 ton and 3 fifties. He will look to continue in the same vein in the NZ vs IND ODIs. He was dismissed for only 5 in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI and scored 8* in the 2nd NZ vs IND ODI while batting in the middle order and might be promoted to open in the 3rd NZ vs IND ODI.

The right-handed batter and Indian current skipper Rohit Sharma has shown decent form in the ODIs though he has failed to convert starts into big tons. Rohit Sharma opened with Shikhar Dhawan in the ODI series against Bangladesh before a thumb injury ruled him out of the 3rd ODI and Test series.

In the last few innings, he scored 27 and 51* (against Bangladesh), 83,17, and 42 (against Sri Lanka), 34 and 51 in the 1st and 2nd NZ vs IND ODI. His last ODI ton came in January 2020 against Australia. He will look to continue in the same vein in the 3rd ODI of the NZ vs IND 3-match ODI series after top scoring with 51 in the 2nd NZ vs IND ODI.

Virat Kohli

The 34-year-old middle-order batter run machine Virat Kohli scored consecutive ODI tons -113 vs Bangladesh in the 3rd ODI and 113 vs Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI before adding one (166*) in the last ODI (3 tons in 4 innings). A good show in the Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022, where he was among the leading run-getters, gave him the necessary confidence to return to form in ODIs too and he responded by scoring 113 in the last inconsequential ODI against Bangladesh.

His 113 off 87 balls in the 1st SL vs IND ODI was laced with 12 fours and a six and he was an obvious choice for Man of the Match. He scored only 4 in the 2nd SL vs IND ODI but scored an unbeaten 166 off 110 (13 fours, 8 sixes, strike rate of 150.91) and was awarded both MOM and MOS in the 3rd SL vs IND ODI. He scored only 8 off 10 in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI and only 11 in the 2nd NZ vs IND ODI.

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav has hit 2 fifties but has failed to convert fifties into tons. His highest ODI score is only 64 against West Indies in February 2022. But he is having an excellent run of form in T20Is, where he has hit 3 tons and 13 fifties and averages 45+ at an outstanding strike rate of 180+. He is currently ranked No. 1 in T20Is by ICC.

The 32-year-old right-handed batter wasn’t in the ODI squad for the Bangladesh series and wasn’t in the playing XI against Sri Lanka in the 1st  and 2nd ODI but replaced Hardik Pandya (who was rested) in the 3rd ODI. He scored only 4 off as many balls in the 3rd SL vs IND ODI.

KL Rahul isn’t named in the upcoming home New Zealand limited over series due to family commitments and Suryakumar Yadav will want to take full advantage of this opportunity. He averages 29.93 in 19 ODIs amassing 419 runs. He will look to continue his T20I form in the NZ vs IND ODIs. He scored 31 off 26 in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI but wasn’t required to bat in the 2nd.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya, the 29-year-old pace all-rounder, was rested for the ODI series against Zimbabwe and West Indies, and his last ODI series before the SL ODIs was against England in July 2022. He scored 71 and picked 4/24 in the last 3rd ODI against England to bag the MOS award for scoring 100 runs and picking 6 scalps in that series.

He wasn’t named in the ODI squad for the Bangladesh series. The pace all-rounder scored 14 and took 1/33 in 6 overs in the first SL vs IND ODI and returned with figures of 0/26 (5 overs) and 36 off 53 in the second SL vs IND ODI. He was rested for the 3rd inconsequential ODI.

He will look to continue in the same vein in the NZ vs IND ODIs. He scored 28 off 38 in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI before being controversially dismissed and was expensive with the ball returning with figures of 1/70 in only 7 overs. He picked 2/16 in 6 overs in the 2nd NZ vs IND ODI.

He had performed well in the 2nd NZ vs IND ODI by picking 2/7 in only 3 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav has featured in 77 ODIs since his debut way back in 2017 in the 50 overs format and has picked 127 scalps averaging 27.6 at an economy of 5.17. He will look to continue in the same vein in the NZ vs IND ODIs. He picked 2/43 in 8 overs in 1st NZ vs IND ODI and 1/29 in 7.3 overs in the 2nd NZ vs IND ODI.

The veteran pacer Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the ODI and Test series against Bangladesh due to a right shoulder injury.  He will look to continue his form in the NZ vs IND ODIs. He picked 1/69 in the 1st NZ vs IND ODI bowling his full quota of 10 overs.

Mohammed Shami was Man of the Match in the 2nd NZ vs IND ODI for his incisive spell of 3/18 in 6 overs. He now has 159 scalps in 87 ODIs averaging 25.96 at an economy of 5.61. He picked the scalps of Finn Allen (0, bowled), Daryl Mitchell (1, caught and bowled) and Michael Bracewell (22, caught by keeper Ishan Kishan).

In the recently concluded IND vs SL ODI series, he picked 9 scalps in 3 ODIs averaging 10.22 to emerge as the highest wicket-taker.

His career-best figures of 4/32 came in the 3rd SL vs IND ODI. In the 1st NZ vs IND ODI, he continued his form by picking 4/46. In the 2nd NZ vs IND ODI, he picked 1/10 in 6 overs including the scalp of Henry Nicholls. He will look to continue in the same vein in the 3rd NZ vs IND ODI.
