NZ vs IND: New Zealand Playing 11 vs India, 3rd ODI, 2023.  India will look to complete a whitewash against the Black Caps in the third ODI at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Tuesday (January 24). A win in the third ODI will help Rohit Sharma’s Team India catapult over both New Zealand and England into the No. 1 position in the ICC men’s ODI ranking.

Rohit Sharma’s side have already won the three-match ODI series against New Zealand 2-0 with a comprehensive win in the second ODI in Raipur on Saturday (January 21). New Zealand lost the 1st NZ vs IND ODI by 12 runs and the 2nd NZ vs IND ODI by 8 wickets.

In the 1st NZ vs IND ODI, Shubman Gill grabbed all the attraction with his record-breaking double ton, becoming the youngest batter to score a double century in ODIs. Shubman Gill smashed 208 runs in just 149 balls, smacking 19 fours & 9 sixes. However, the 2nd highest score in the team was Rohit Sharma’s 34 runs. Suryakumar Yadav scored 31 runs while none of the other batters managed to cross the 30-run mark.

Defending a total of 349, Indian bowlers were given a mighty scare by the Kiwi lower-order batters. However, the Mohammed Siraj-led Indian bowling attack bowled well to the top order, diminishing New Zealand to 131/6 in a high-run chase. Mohammed Siraj was yet again the top-wicket taker with 4 wickets to his name (4/46), while Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur registered 2 wickets each.

Shardul Thakur bowled the last over under high pressure and managed to seal the match with a prized wicket of Michael Bracewell who scored 140. Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya also registered 1 wicket each in the first NZ vs IND ODI.

For New Zealand, Devon Conway had the most expectations on his back but failed to live up with just 10 runs to his name in the first NZ vs IND ODI. His opening partner Finn Allen scored 40 runs off 39 balls but failed to score bigger. After the specialist batters failed, Michael Bracewell came on and along with Mitchell Santner, brought the Kiwis unbelievably close to a win. Michael Bracewell scored 140 runs and was well-assisted by Mitchell Santner’s 57 runs.

The bowling was pretty average in the absence of Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Ish Sodhi as the Kiwis conceded a total of 349 runs while bowling first. Henry Shipley and Daryl Mitchell grabbed 2 wickets each while Lockie Ferguson, Blair Tickner, and Mitchell Santner managed 1 wicket each.

NZ vs IND 1st ODI: Brief Scores: India 349/8 (Shubman Gill 208, Rohit Sharma 34; Daryl Mitchell 2-30) won by 12 runs against New Zealand: 337 (Michael Bracewell 140, Mitchell Santner 57, Mohammed Siraj 4/46).

India has been on a roll in the ODI format and have they are on a 7-match winning streak currently. And with home World Cup 2023 later this year they would look to test some players to further strengthen their bench squad.

New Zealand on the other hand will look to end the series on a high. One expects a good contest despite the match being a dead rubber with a lot to play with an eye on the World Cup 2023.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma (51 runs) and Shubhan Gill (37 runs) made short work of the meagre target on board. Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya will be itching to make a big score in this match as they are due for one in this series.

Pacer Mohammed Shami ran through the kiwi top order with a spell of 6-1-18-3 in the match. Hardik Pandya (2/16), Mohammed Siraj (1/10), and Shardul Thakur (1/20) picked up wickets regularly at the other end. Spinners Washington Sundar (2/7) and Kuldeep Yadav (1/29) too continued the good work of pacers.

New Zealand were bowled out for just 108 runs in the last game. Glenn Philips top scored with 36 runs while the duo of Michael Bracewell (22 runs) and Mitchell Santner (27 runs) chipped in with small cameos in the middle order. Their top order players are yet to make a mark in this series and will be eyeing for this match as a opportunity.

Their bowlers were never in the contest with a small total on board. Mitchell Santner and Henry Shipley chipped in with a wicket each in the match. Blair Tickner and Lockie Ferguson were economical in their overs in the last game. Their bowlers were unable to stop the Indian batters so far in the series.

Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 40 off 53 deliveries, a knock studded with six fours. He was mostly content to give Rohit Sharma the strike during their 72-run opening-wicket partnership. Pacer Mohammed Shami proved his worth yet again, destroying the opposition New Zealand’s top-order and was awarded Man of the Match for picking 3/18 in the 2nd ODI.
