BCCI Contemplated to Give Overseas Players a Choice Between IPL and PSL

The Pulwama attack that took lives of 40 Indian jawans, earlier this month has left the country in utter shock. In the wake of the incident, India have cut several ties with Pakistan. There were also calls from several fronts of boycotting Pakistan in the upcoming ICC World Cup. Also, calls were going around in social media about boycotting foreign players from the Indian Premier League (IPL) who are currently featuring in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). But the authority had to drop the plan of debarring overseas players from participating in IPL.

However, the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) comprising Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji and Lieutenant General Ravi Thodge — and CEO Rahul Johri discussed this matter but felt it won’t be right to tell foreign cricketers to choose as it was the IPL franchises that had bought the players and not BCCI. Marquee international players like AB de Villiers, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Carlos Brathwaite, Colin Ingram, and Andrew Russell are part of the ongoing PSL.

Previously, IMG Reliance had pulled out as the producer of the franchise based tournament in Pakistan. Moreover, DSports also stopped their telecast of the league in India.

Meanwhile, Johri has already written to International Cricket Council to sever its ties with Pakistan. As of now, boycotting the Pakistan clash in the government’s court as all parties have revealed that they will obey the government’s decision. But ICC is hell-bent to go on with the game, and if the men in blues don’t turn up for the game, they will lose two crucial points. Recently the India media labeled Sachin Tendulkar as anti-national for urging BCCI not to boycott the game as it can turn out to be detrimental for India.

However, there is a huge craze for the India-Pakistan game as it has attracted 400000 applications for tickets in a 25000 sitter stadium in Manchester. The match will take place on June 16.
