New Zealand cricketer Hayley timed her jump to perfection to dismiss India opener Smriti Mandhana to give the Kiwis a perfect in the opening fixture of ICC Women’s World T20.

Meanwhile, India restricted New Zealand to 160 runs after posting 194 runs on the board, thus winning the game by 34 runs. Previously, Kaur struck a brilliant hundred to set the stage on fire on the opening day of the tournament. Jemimah played the supporting role, whereas Harmanpreet was the star of the show. She registered the first ever hundred for India in T20Is to get her side to the highest ever total in the WWT20.

The Kiwis needed to produce something special, and they were in the hunt initially with a quick 52-run partnership. The spinners, though, brought about a top-order collapse after that. They started to improvise as opposed to sticking to percentage cricket, and it was only a matter of time before they succumb to the scoreboard pressure.

India, meanwhile, got off to a worst possible start losing Taniya Bhatia in the second over the match. The batters looked in discomfort as Smriti Mandhana survived an lbw call in the third over. However, nothing can save here on this occasion.

It was a short-pitched delivery as Mandhana picked the length early and swivel-pulled it. She made good contact; however, the placement wasn’t proper. Hayley Jensen, placed at deep square leg who was a few inches in front of the boundary rope, timed her jump to perfection and snaffled it over her head. A superb catch and India have lost both their openers.

However, it was an outstanding partnership from Harmanpreet and Jemimah that saved the day for India.
