The fourth match of the PSL 2022 will have Karachi Kings take on Quetta Gladiators on Saturday at National Stadium in Karachi. Karachi Kings have made an awful start to their campaign, having suffered a humiliating 7-wicket defeat at the hands of Multan Sultans on Thursday. Karachi Kings batted first in that encounter and managed to score only 124 runs in the first innings.
Sharjeel Khan gave the team a solid start at the top as he scored a valuable 43-run knock off 31 balls. However, once he got out in the 10 over of the innings, the Kings lost the plot. Skipper, Babar Azam played a scratchy knock of 23 runs in 29 deliveries, while the likes of Joe Clarke (26 off 24) and M Nabi (10 off 17) also failed to convert the start into big knocks.
The bowlers tried hard but there wasn’t enough score on the board. M Nabi took two crucial wickets in his 3.2 over spell but he was, perhaps, brought a bit late into the attack.
The likes of A Yamin and M Imran failed to pick a single wicket. There is no denying the fact that Karachi Kings missed the services of M Amir on Thursday. Ahead of their next game on Saturday, Babar Azam and Co. would be keen on bouncing back strongly.
Facing them are Quetta Gladiators, who will be playing their second game of this season. They fared badly last season as they finished the tournament at the bottom position. In 10 matches, the Gladiators could only manage to win 2 games.
The Quetta Gladiators would be keen to make a positive start this year. The team would, once again, be led by Sarfaraz Ahmed. They have some notable overseas acquisitions this season.
In Jason Roy and James Vince, they have got two powerful hitters of the ball. Unfortunately, due to England commitments, they would be available for the initial part of the tournament. Shimron Hetmyer has been picked as the partial replacement for Jason Roy. He is likely to be part of the playing XI.
Besides, the Gladiators will be banking on the services of Ben Duckett, who is in blistering form at the moment. He is coming into the series on the back of impressive performances in the BBL tournament.
In the middle-order, they have got the likes of Sarfaraz Ahmed, Iftikhar Ahmed and Dan Lawrence among others. All four including Hetmyer have the ability to play well in the middle overs and guide the team to strong totals.
The inclusion of Shahidi Afridi, James Faulkner further adds depth to this batting unit. Both are pretty handy with the ball and their all-round abilities should keep the team in good stead.
As for the bowling, the likes of Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, James Faulkner will be the biggest bets in the fast bowling department. Mohammad Nawaz will carry the spin workload. He took six wickets last season and gave away runs at less than 8 an over.
