The fifth match of the Pakistan Super League is set to be played between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United on Sunday at National Stadium in Karachi.

The runners-up of the last year’s edition, Peshawar Zalmi have made a winning start to their campaign. They won their first game against Quetta Gladiators by 5 wickets on Friday. The bowling unit were thrashed right, left and center by Quetta Gladiators. They conceded as many as 190 runs in the first innings. Usman Qadir was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 2 for 20 in 4 overs. However, all the other bowlers failed to impress.
The likes of Sameen Gul (2 for 41), Sohail Khan (0 for 51), and Patrick Brown (0 for 34) went for plenty of runs. They should look to improve on that performance ahead of the next game.
Despite conceding such a big total, the Peshawar Zalmi managed to chase it down in 19.4 overs with five wickets in hand. Yasir Khan gave the team a rollicking start with a 12-ball 30-run cameo. Tom Cohler-Cadmore also played a decent cameo of 22 runs in 16 balls, while Haider Ali made 19 off 21. At 8.2 overs, the Zalmi were 77 for 3, but still with a mountain to claim.

What followed a match-defining partnership between skipper Shoaib Malik and Hussain Talat. The duo took the bowling unit apart with some sensational power-hitting. They added 81 runs for the fourth wicket and gave the team the best chance to win the game.
Talat got out after playing a sensational knock of 52 runs in 29 deliveries, while Shoaib Malik remained unbeaten on 48 off 32. Thanks to those two valuable knocks, Zalmi managed to chase down the target and thereby, earned their first points in the tournament. They would look to continue the winning momentum.

Facing them are the Islamabad United, who will be playing their first game of this season. Islamabad Unit finished at the top position on the points table after the league stage matches last year. However, they couldn’t reach the finals. Ahead of a new season, they would look to clinch the title this time around.
Islamabad United is the most successful team in the history of the tournament. Over the years, they have produced some sensational performances and the fans would expect them to deliver this year as well. Once again, they have compiled a pretty good squad.
In Paul Sterling and Alex Hales, the United have got two world-class openers. The duo will have the responsibility to get the team off to great starts. The middle-order took looks pretty solid, having got the likes of Shadab Khan, Colin Munro, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz among others.
As for the finishers, United have trusted in the abilities of Asif Ali and Azam Khan. Both have shown their finishing skills on many occasions in the recent past. It will be interesting to see how they fare this time around.
The pace department will continue to be led by Hasan Ali. He is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in the history of the Pakistan Super League. He would be eying on that number one position ahead of a new season. Ali will share the fast bowling duties along with Marchant de Lange and Mohammad Wasim Jr. to name a few.
