PSL 2022: Best XI Of The Tournament

Lahore Qalandars put in an outstanding performance against Multan Sultans in the PSL 2022 final on Sunday at Gaddafi Stadium. They beat the defending champions by 42 runs to clinch their maiden title in PSL history. Riding on valuable knocks from M Hafeez and Harry Brook, Lahore Qalandars managed to score a formidable score of 180 runs on the board in the first innings.

The Qalandars didn’t make an ideal start, having lost their first three wickets for just 25 runs. However, M Hafeez then took the matters into his own hands and went on to play a match-defining knock of 69 runs in just 46 deliveries. Later, Harry Brook (41 off 22) and Wiese (28 off 8) also played valuable cameos to take the team to a winning total.

In response to that, Multan Sultans were bundled out for just 138 runs in the second innings. Lahore Qalandars exhibited a spectacular performance with the ball and made things difficult for Multan Sultans. Shaheen Shah Afridi starred with the ball as he picked 3 for 30 in 4 overs. Besides, the likes of M Hafeez, Zaman Khan picked two wickets each. With that game, PSL 2022 has come to an end and, on that note, we take a look at our best XI of the tournament.

  1. Fakhar Zaman

Fakhar Zaman was nothing short of sensational in the tournament. He scored runs consistently and played an instrumental role in Lahore Qalandars’ success in the tournament. In 13 matches, he managed to score 588 runs at an average of 45.23 and a strike rate of 152.72. Besides, he notched one century and seven half-centuries in the tournament.

Pakistan’s star cricketer Mohammad Rizwan, once again, enjoyed a successful campaign with Multan Sultans in the tournament. He led from the front with the bat, having managed to score 546 runs in 12 matches at an average of 68.25. He scored as many as seven half-centuries in the tournament. His batting exploits helped the team reach the final. Unfortunately, he got out cheaply in the summit clash and the team lost the game by 42 runs.

Alex Hales had an unforgettable tournament with the bat. He made a great opening pair with Paul Sterling and the duo managed to give a number of ideal starts with the bat. His role with the bat was pivotal to Islamabad United’s success in the tournament. He finished the tournament as the fifth highest run-getter. In 9 matches, Alex Hales managed to score 355 runs in 9 matches at an average of 44.38.

  1. M Hafeez

Mohammad Hafeez match-winning knock of 69 runs in 46 balls in the final of the PSL 2022 will be remembered for years. The former Pakistan cricketer played vital knocks with the bat and also bowled crucial spells with the ball. Hafeez managed to score 323 runs in 13 matches at an average of close to 30.

At number five is Mr. Dependable, Shoaib Malik. Malik stood out with crucial performances for Quetta Gladiators in this season. Though, his performances weren’t enough in helping the team reach the playoffs. Malik managed to score 401 runs in 11 matches at 44.56. He hit 3 half-centuries in PSL 2022.

Batting at lower down the order, Harry Brook played crucial cameos in the latter half of the innings for Lahore Qalandars. His knocks proved vital in the context of the game and helped them secure wins. Brooks smacked 264 runs in 10 matches at an outstanding average and strike rate of 52.80 and 171.43.

Shabad Khan exhibited his all-round prowess in the tournament. He made contributions with both bat and ball and showed the world he is one of the biggest assets for Pakistan in white-ball format. Shadab Khan claimed 19 wickets in the tournament at a sensational average of 10.89 and an economy of under 7.

Islamabad United spinner Khushdil Shah pipped Rashid Khan to take the number eight position in the list. Shah impressed one and all with his bowling exploits. He shone brightly with 16 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 13.93 and economy of 6.89.  His best figures in the tournament came against Islamabad United, where he picked up 4 -35. Shah also contributed with the bat lower down the order, scoring 153 runs at a strike rate of 182.14.

Shaheen Afridi will lead the pace-bowling department in our best XI of the PSL 2022. He was outstanding throughout the tournament. The Lahore Qalandars delivered an outstanding performance in the final of the PSL 2022. He finished with bowling figures of 3 for 30 in 4 overs. The left-arm seamer finished the series as the highest wicket-taker with 20 wickets to his name in 13 matches at an average of 19.75.

  1. Zaman Khan

Zaman Khan is the breakthrough star for Lahore Qalandars this year. He complimented the likes of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf in the pace department wonderfully. Khan was outstanding both in the power play as well as at the death. In 18 matches, he managed to pick 13 wickets at an average of 21.50.

  1. Shahnawaz Dahani

Shahnawaz Dahani should complete our best XI of the PSL 2022. He enjoyed another stellar season with the ball. Dahani didn’t start off too well but later found his groove and there was no looking back thereafter. He managed to pick 17 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 19.76. Overall, he claimed the fourth-most number of wickets in the tournament.
