An emergency meeting was held by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with all PSL franchise owners to make a decision regarding the upcoming PSL matches planned for Lahore and Rawalpindi. The interim Punjab government had requested the PCB to pay PKR500 million for organizing the matches in these cities, out of which PKR50 million was already paid by the board for food expenses.

The remaining amount of PKR450 million is being demanded by the provincial government for security and lighting purposes. To avoid incurring these expenses, the board is contemplating relocating the Punjab-leg of PSL 8 to Karachi.

During a video conference call, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) allowed the chairman of the management committee, Najam Sethi, to make the final decision on the fate of the PSL matches scheduled in Lahore and Rawalpindi, reported Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan Cricket Board Deny Punjab Government’s Demands

Sethi expressed his concerns about setting an unfavourable precedent and incurring financial losses for the board and franchises if the PCB gives in to the provincial government’s demand for PKR450 million for lighting and security expenses. The PSL franchises have already declined to bear the cost.

The PCB is currently negotiating with the provincial government to resolve the matter. During a meeting held on Friday evening between the PCB and the provincial government, Sethi presented details of approximately PKR 700 million in provincial taxes that are exclusively generated due to the PSL matches in Punjab.

The PCB has informed the Punjab government that no payment will be made for security services, and they are willing to relocate the matches from Punjab to Karachi. In the event that the matter remains unresolved, an emergency meeting will be held between the PCB and PSL franchises tomorrow.

An alternate proposal has been offered by the PCB to PSL franchises, suggesting that the remaining PSL 8 matches be moved to Karachi. According to Muhammad Yousuf Anjum, a correspondent from Express-News, if this relocation takes place, the matches scheduled to be held in Lahore during the New Zealand series may also be transferred to Karachi.
