Ricardo Powell Names Greatest Cricketers Of All-Time

Ricardo Powell wasted his talent many suggested. But the former West Indies batsman has no regrets and there is nothing he would like to change about his career. Even though West Indies legend Michael Holding famously suggested Powell wasted his career, he believes it is all about learning from your mistakes, and keep moving on in life.

Powell has played with some of the finest cricketers of all-time, faced some of the greatest bowlers. In his short and substantial career from 1999 to 2005, he has also seen of the greatest innings unfold in front of his eyes. In an exclusive chat with CricketAddictor, Powell, named some of the greatest cricketers of all-time according to their roles.

Ricardo Powell: To pick one great of the game would be unfair

West Indies legend Brian Lara was a tall figure in international cricket. His record as highest individual Test score of 400 not out against England in 2004, surpassing former Australia opener Matthew Hayden’s score of 380, still remains intact. Lara was one of the finest batsmen of have graced the game, besides batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who scored century of centuries in a long and incredibly successful bowlers.

Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram was a nightmare for batsmen. He would bring life to a lifeless surface and in the spin department Shane Warne and Muttiah Murlitharan still remain a cut above the rest. Powell named these cricketers as the greatest ever to have played the game.

“I would break it in categories, if we say greatest batsman of all-time, I’m going to say Brian Lara, if I’m looking at bowler, in terms of pace, I admire Wasim Akram, spinner you have Shane Warne and Muralitharan, and in batting you would say Sachin Tendulkar….the two names Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar, can’t just pick one, have played along side a lot of great players, have seen a lot of great innings,” Powell said.

One of the finest knock that defined Powell personally came in 1999, at the Singapore Challenge, where he took some of the finest India bowlers under the likes of Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble. Stepping in to bat in the middle-order, he hit a blitzkrieg 124 off 93 balls, laced with nine boundaries and eight hits over the fence to help the West Indies clinch victory with 14 balls to spare.
