Aaron Phangiso, the left-arm-off spinner’s bowling action has been found illegal. The spinner was playing for Johburg Super Kings In the inaugural SA20 league against Pretoria Capitals on Tuesday (17th January). Phangiso took 4 wickets and gave away 32 runs in his match-winning spell.
The 38-year-old spinner has been in & out of the national team where he last played for South Africa way back in 2018 against India. The SA20 league is proving to be a fascinating one as there have been even contests between bat & ball.
CSA Bowling Action Panel on Suspected Bowling Action
The Bowling action panel consists of Gerrie Pieenar, Vernon Philander & Vincent Barnes will watch the video clips of his bowling action and take a step after a span of 7 days. Till that time Aaron Phangiso can take part in the SA20 league matches for Super Kings.
Concerns for Super Kings
Aaron Phangiso has been quite an inseparable part of the setup where he has taken 6 wickets in the 5 matches. The spinner has the knack of picking up wickets at crucial stages of the match and at the same time, the spinner bowls impeccable lines & lengths. Skipper Faf du Plessis would be hoping that the spinner isn’t banned for suspected bowling action. Super Kings are at the bottom of the table where they have won 2 matches out of 5.
Aaron Phangiso’s action has been reported earlier way back in 2016 during the One Day Cup while playing for Lions against Warriors. He later was cleared of the action after undergoing remedial work on his action. It would be interesting to see whether Aaron Phangiso is cleared off the suspected bowling action because so far he has been an inseparable part of the team.
