A comical incident took place during the SA20 2023 match between the MI Cape Town and Sunrisers Eastern Cape as a MICT player took out Zainab Abbas while trying to save a boundary. Fortunately, no one got injured and Zainab Abbas, who is a Pakistani television host, sports presenter and commentator, reacted amusingly after the collision.

The 12th match of the SA20 2023 was played between the Rashid Khan-led MI Cape Town and the Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Eastern Cape at the Newlands in Cape Town on Wednesday, January 18.

Losing the toss and batting first, MICT posted 171/6 on the board with the help of a half-century by Grant Roelofsen and good contributions by Delano Potgieter, Ryan Rickelton and Odean Smith.

Chasing the target, SEC lost half their side for 91 and needed 81 runs off 47 balls to win. Then Marco Jansen showcased his power-hitting and played an astonishing knock against the strong bowling attack of MICT that consists of Kagiso Rabada, Sam Curran, Rashid Khan and Jofra Archer.

Jansen didn’t get any support from the other hand and he did all the heavy lifting. He went berserk against the bowlers and batted with a strike rate of 244.44 before being dismissed by Kagiso Rabada.

He smashed sensational 66 runs off 27 balls, including 3 fours and 7 sixes, that helped SEC seal the victory. Marco Jansen even took Rashid Khan, who is regarded as one of the best spinners in the world, to the cleaners and smashed him for 28 runs in an over.

The comical incident took place on the last ball of the 13th over, which was bowled by left-arm pacer Sam Curran. The pacer bowled a slower delivery and Jansen smashed the ball straight to the deep mid-wicket.

Two fielders ran from their respective positions to save the boundary, but both of them failed and the ball went past the boundary rope. However, one of the fielders ended up colliding with the presenter.

Zainab Abbas was interviewing a member of the support staff near the boundary when Marco Jansen smashed the ball and as it went closer to her, she said “the ball is coming straight at us..” and she managed to prevent the ball from hitting her but couldn’t do the same with respect to a diving fielder and a collision took place.

Zainab Abbas tumbled to the floor and was helped by the interviewee. She soon stood up and asked her colleague “are you okay?”. Then she jokingly says, “It seems we are okay. it seems we have rather survived.”

Moments later, Zainab Abbas was seen laughing and she said, “it is clearly back to you guys in the commentary box”.

Zainab Abbas later took to Twitter to confirm that she is completely fine and said, “I’ve survived, but now I know how it feels! Get that ice pack out.”
