Young batsman Dewald Brevis revealed that he admired Mumbai Indians players Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Brevis opened up about his playing experience for MI, saying that he thoroughly enjoyed playing with them in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and learned a lot from his time in the competition last year.
The 19-year-old was bought by the five-time IPL champion for 3 crores in last year’s mega auction, and he had a great time in the tournament. Brevis, famously known as “Baby AB de Villiers,” is playing for the MI sister franchise, MI Cape Town, in the inaugural edition of Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) new Twenty20 League (SA20).
My Blood Is Blue And My Favorite Colour Is Blue – Dewald Brevis
Dewald Brevis said that he is happy to represent two teams from the MI family and that the set-up in Cape Town is fantastic, just like the Mumbai Indians.
“My blood is blue and my favorite colour is blue. So to just be able to be part of this one family, it’s been amazing like the setup everything is absolutely fantastic here in Cape Town, just like it is in Mumbai itself. So to be part of this family is absolutely amazing,” said Brevis.
The right-handed batter played a brilliant knock of 70 runs against the Paarl Royals in the opening game and guided his team to victory. The 19-year-old has scored 135 runs in six games at a strike rate of 109.76 in the ongoing South Africa T20 league.
I Had Fanboy Moments After Meeting These Stars – Dewald Brevis
The young South African said he idolized Sharma and Yadav and had a major fanboy moment when he joined MI during the IPL. The right-handed batsman scored 161 runs in seven outings in his first season for MI.
“I idolized a lot of players like for example, Rohit Sharma and Surya Kumar and all other big players, I absolutely enjoyed playing with these legends,” he added.
“I think I learned a lot at the IPL. I had fanboy moments after meeting these stars, but my coaching team made me feel that I belong in the Family and advised me not to be overawed, I think that helped me too.”
