Kavya Maran, the daughter of Sun Network owner Kalanithi Maran and co-owner of T20 league Sunrisers franchises, received a marriage proposal during Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s match against Paarl Royals at the Boland Park Ground in Paarl on Thursday, January 19.
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape continued their winning streak with a five-wicket win over Paarl Royals on Thursday in the inaugural season of the ongoing inaugural season of the SA20 league. SREC became one of the strongest teams in the competition as the tournament progressed.

At the end of the eighth over of the Paarl Royals’ inning, the camera focused on a fan holding a placard with a marriage proposal for Kavya Maran and an emoji of a heart on it. The banner said, “Kavya Maran, WILL YOU MARRY ME?”

Kavya Maran enjoys watching cricket and is frequently spotted in the stands supporting her team, the Sunrisers Hyderabad, during IPL matches. The 30-year-old is currently in South Africa and supporting Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
Kavya’s father is the grand-nephew of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and politician M Karunanidhi, and her uncle, Dayanidhi Maran, represents Chennai Central in parliament. Kaviya was first seen on television during the 2018 IPL season when she was spotted cheering for SRH against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Uppal’s Rajiv Gandhi Stadium.
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape is now second in the six-team points table with 12 points, only behind the Pretoria Capitals. Their next match is against the Joburg Super Kings at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Saturday, January 21.
