Former India National Cricket Team captain Virat Kohli might be rested for the third match of the three-match T20I series against the South Africa National Cricket Team, according to a report in Hindustan Times.
The third and final T20I, which will be a dead rubber encounter, between Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Temba Bavuma-led South Africa National Cricket Team is scheduled to be played at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Tuesday, October 4.
India dominantly won by 8 wickets against Temba Bavuma’s South Africa in the T20I series opener at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, September 28.
Also, India won the second T20I by 16 runs against South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, October 2. With the win in Sunday night’s game, India clinched a series victory against South Africa at home for the first time in four attempts.
Management Wants Virat Kohli To Be Fresh Mentally And Physically Heading Into T20 World Cup
On Monday, October 3, Hindustan Times reported that the star India National Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli will be rested for the third T20I against South Africa as the management wants Kohli to be mentally and physically fresh heading into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
“He has played Back-to-back matches. Will have to be careful about his workload. With the T20 World Cup starting later this month, we want Virat to be fresh mentally and physically. He has featured. regularly for India in T201 matches since the Asia Cup and with the series already won, it’s better to give him a breather and someone else can be given a game ahead of him,” sources in the know of things told Hindustan Times.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which is the eighth edition of the multi-nation tournament, is scheduled to be played from October 16 to November 13.
Talking about the performances of Virat Kohli in the first two T20Is against South Africa, the star batter scored 3 runs off 9 balls before being dismissed by Anrich Nortje in the first T20I.
In the second T20I, Virat Kohli had an outstanding 102-run partnership in 42 balls with star middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav. Kohli remained unbeaten in the second game and smashed brilliant 49 runs off 28 balls, including 7 fours and 1 sixes.
