India takes on South Africa in a white-ball series comprising three T20Is and three ODIs starting with the first T20I on September 28 in Thiruvananthapuram. The next two T20Is will be played on October 2 and October 4 in Guwahati and Indore. The series then moves onto the three ODIs on October 6, 9 and 11 in Lucknow, Ranchi and Delhi respectively. India is currently topping the T20I rankings and placed third in the ODI rankings.
India last played an ODI series under the captaincy of KL Rahul against Zimbabwe and beat them 3-0. Ahead of West Indies, India also played an ODI series against West Indies under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan winning the series 3-0.
Ahead of Zimbabwe and West Indies, India played an ODI series against England when they travelled to the UK to play the postponed fifth test against England. Though they lost the rescheduled Test, India won the T20I and ODI series against England. That was the last time Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma played together in an ODI series.
As India builds up to the T20 World Cup, this is the last T20I series they play before the T20 World Cup in Australia. India are expected to go in with a full-strength side with the intention to win the series. Some senior players are expected to make a comeback into the ODI squad as well.
In this article, we take a look at the Indian squad for the ODI series against South Africa, who have already announced their squad for the tour. Temba Bavuma who has recovered from a left elbow injury, that he suffered during the five-match T20I series against Team India in June will lead the Proteas In the T20Is and ODIs. He will be also leading the side in the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Rohit will once again lead the side after having got ample amount of rest and making a good comeback with his bat. India failed to qualify for the final of the Asia Cup and hence will be looking to win everything from hereon. Virat Kohli scored his 71st international ton as he brought up his maiden T20I ton against Afghanistan and seems to be back in form. KL Rahul also scored some runs in the Asia Cup and seems to be in for a long run.
SKY and Shreyas Iyer are the options in the middle order. It will be interesting to see how the management plays them in the three ODIs.
