Jasprit Bumrah’s potential exclusion from the ICC tournament has dealt Team India a serious setback in their quest to win the T20 World Cup in 2022. According to reports, the right-arm pacer will be out of commission for the next four to five months due to a back stress fracture.

He is expected to miss the T20 World Cup and sit out for a sizable period, according to the PTI. Bumrah has been receiving adequate respite from the BCCI because o long-standing back problems. He also missed the crucial Asia Cup due to a back issue.

The veteran bowler was rested for the series opener against Australia last week and was not immediately inserted into the starting lineup upon his return. He was absent from the first T20I against South Africa as well. Bumrah’s back injury was reported by the PTI a day after the match, and he is all but out of the competition.

It’s unfortunate to not have the services of Jasprit Bumrah: Dodda Ganesh

On Thursday, September 29, Bumrah was a popular trend on social media. Some fans doubted his dedication to Team India by pointing out that he participated in all 14 games for the Mumbai Indians during the IPL in 2022. Dodda Ganesh, a former Indian pacer, chastised fans for criticizing Bumrah and urged them to “respect” the sportsmen.

“Fans need to understand that no one can plan their injuries. It’s unfortunate to not have the services of Bumrah & Jadeja for the WC. But to shoot in the dark—saying these players remain fit only during the IPL is ridiculous. Let’s respect our players,” Dodda Ganesh has written on Twitter.

Bumrah’s participation in the T20 World Cup has not yet been officially ruled out by the BCCI. However, he will not play in the final two T20Is against South Africa.

He has been succeeded by Mohammed Siraj. Bumrah’s replacements in the WC squad are expected to be Deepak Chahar and Mohammed Shami.
