At a time when preparations are in full swing for the upcoming five-match T20I series between India and South Africa which will begin on June 9 and will be played across venues in India, a shocking piece of news has come out of Orissa, which will host the second T20I match between the two sides on June 12.

This upcoming India-South Africa T20I series will see a full capacity crowd in the stadiums across the country and will be played without any bio-bubbles, though the players will be tested before each and every match and at noted intervals.

The first T20I will be played at Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi on June 9, the second T20I at Barabati Stadium in Orissa on June 12, third T20I at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on June 14, the fourth ODI will be played at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on June 17 and the fifth and concluding T20I will be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on June 19.

All five T20I matches will begin at 7.00 IST.

Man Files PIL In Orissa High Court; Wants T20I Match Between India and South Africa In Barabati Stadium Cancelled On Safety Grounds

According to reports, one Sanjay Nayak of the Bhuban area in the Dhenkanal district has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court claiming that the Barabati Stadium lacks adequate fire safety measures. The stadium has a capacity of 45,000 people.

The petitioner has sought the order of the court for the cancellation of the match. The petitioner has made the Odisha Government, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), and 12 others parties in the case.

Apart from this, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC), acting on a petition filed by Nishikanta Mishra, had recently sought a report from concerned authorities about the fire safety procedures at the Barabati Stadium. The commission had issued notice to the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) and DCP, Cuttack.

This has led to the OCA secretary Sanjay Behera stating that satisfactory fire safety arrangements will be made at the stadium to avoid any unfortunate event during the international match.
