The BCCI selection committee announced India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad on Monday, September 12. Along with that, the selectors announced squads for the IND vs AUS and IND vs SA T20I series. Rohit Sharma will lead the 15-member squad with Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel making a comeback to the squad. Some of the players who were in the T20 World Cup last year have been ignored this year. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami is added to the reserves alongside Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar. 

The squad for the IND vs SA series will be announced in due course. Arshdeep Singh will be missing the T20I series against Australia while Bhuvneshwar Kumar against South Africa. Both will be at the NCA during that time to work on their health and fitness to be prepared for the T20 World Cup

The ODI series against South Africa will be played between October 6 to 11. The first ODI will be played in Lucknow, second in Ranchi and the third in Delhi. While the squad is yet to be announced, there are some players who are expected to return to the squad. In this article, we take a look at the possible opening options for the IND vs SA ODI Series.

If regular skipper Rohit Sharma opts to rest in the ODI series against South Africa, Rahul can open the batting along with Shikhar Dhawan, Both have complemented each other well whenever they have opened the batting together for India. They have been a successful opening pair in both ODIs and T20Is for India.
