India will begin their international cricket season after the IPL with a five-match T20I series against South Africa. Temba Bavuma’s Boys has shown up in Delhi. Even though the city feels like a chimney, the South African cricket team has already been whacking the nets regularly at Kotla (Arun Jaitley Stadium).

On June 5, the Indian team will check into the team hotel. The series between India and South Africa begins on June 9 in Delhi.

It’s that time of year when the national capital turns into a heater and going outside has become a challenge. If the temperature rises above 44 degrees, it is best to stay at home or in the office to avoid the sweltering heat.

The IPL stars took it easy here on Saturday, but the rest of the team worked hard in the heat. The irony was clear: Quinton de Kock shadow-practiced his golfing skills with his cricket bat, while another South African opener, Reeza Hendricks, and captain Temba Bavuma sweated.

Temba Bavuma on Captaining South Africa:

South Africa’s limited-overs captain, Temba Bavuma, has spoken out about his experiences as a leader thus far. Following the resignation of Quinton de Kock, the 32-year-old was appointed captain of all white-ball formats in March 2021.

Bavuma has led the Proteas to series victories over the West Indies, Sri Lanka, and India so far.

However, the most recent low points have been group stage elimination in the 2021 T20 World Cup and a home series loss to Bangladesh.

“I knew from the start that the role would be difficult, but looking back on the year and all of it we had to conquer, I couldn’t have predicted it all. We’ve made good progress as a squad, and as a leader within the team, I’ve made efforts to focus as much on the cricket as possible and not become distracted by all the off-field issues.”

India will face South Africa in a five-match T20I series beginning on Thursday (June 9).
