The Indian cricket team will attempt to break a ‘world record’ when they face South Africa in the first T20I of a three-match series on Thursday. India has won 12 T20Is in a row and is only one victory away from reaching the century mark.
Despite the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket team faces South Africa in the first T20I of a three-match series. India currently holds the record, along with Afghanistan and Romania.

While Kohli and Rohit have been rested for the series, KL Rahul is set to skipper the side once more, with the circumstance providing him with another chance to prove his captaincy qualifications. Though Rahul’s leadership and strategic abilities are still developing, he would just be keen not to falter in his order to pursue a World Record on Thursday.

So far, Team India has won 12 consecutive matches in the game’s shortest format. A win over the Proteas would be their 13th straight T20I victory. No other team in the sport has ever accomplished this feat.
Team India had registered 12 consecutive victories in T20s:
The Indian team’s impressive record began on November 3, 2021, when they faced Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup. India had lost the first 2 games of the tournament, to Pakistan and New Zealand. However, the Men in Blue have not lost a T20I match since those two defeats.
Team India had won 12 consecutive Twenty20 Internationals, matching Afghanistan’s record for most consecutive T20I wins by a Test-playing nation.

The last time India and South Africa met in T20Is was in 2019 when the two teams played a three-match series. The series was tied 1-1, with each team winning one game. The first game of the series was called off due to rain.
The KL Rahul-led team will have an opportunity to make history on Thursday if they win the first T20I of the five-match series against South Africa at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi.
India is currently the top-ranked team in the game’s shortest format.
