India and South Africa go head to head in a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series before heading into the T20 World Cup in Australia next month. This is the final opportunity for both teams to finalise the team combinations ahead of the mega event.

India are heading into the series after beating Australia 2-1 in the recently concluded T20I series. South Africa won the first T20I by six wickets. India bounced back in the second T20I and won the game by 6 wickets in an 8-overs per-side game.

India once again aced a big run-chase in the decider in Hyderabad on Sunday tracking down 188. Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav were at the centre of the run-chase with their 104-run partnership.

“It’s a special place. We have had great memories playing for India and when I played for Deccan Chargers as well. The biggest positive was different individuals stepping up and delivering. You feel good about it as a management. The margin of error in T20s is small. We took our chances, we were brave as well. Sometimes it doesn’t come off. There are areas to improve as well. Not easy coming back after a break against a tough team” said Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.

South Africa, on the other hand, have a very good record playing T20I cricket in India. In the first series in 2015, they won the series 2-0 after winning in Dharamsala and Cuttack. The final T20I in Kolkata was abandoned due to rain.

The second T20 series took place in September 2018. The series ended 1-1 after the first game was called off without a ball being bowled. India won the second T20I in Mohali while South Africa won the third to finish the series 1-1.

South Africa and India last locked horns in a T20I series in June 2022. During the away tour, South Africa played 5 T20I games against the home team India. The series ended in a 2-2 tie. South Africa won the 1st T20I by 7 wickets and the 2nd T20I by 4 wickets.

India won the 3rd T20I by 48 runs and the 4th T20I by 82 runs. The 5th T20I was washed out due to rain. Thus the Proteas have never lost a series in the T20I format in India since 2018.
